Last Dec, 7, 2015, My son Brio and his friends went on a bike trip to Wawa Dam in Rodriguez, Rizal. I've never been there so I joined their small group for some needed break and sightseeing. Since we had to ride our bikes, I brought my compact camera instead to reduce weight for the trip.
Wawa Dam is a well known destination for bikers. The distance going there and back is around 50+ kilometers from our house. The route is mostly flat from Marikina to Rodriguez but the roads are tight and full of vehicles.
It was formerly known as Montalban Dam when it was constructed in 1909 to provide water to Manila. It is located between the towering 360 meters Wawa Gorge or Montalban Gorge. It was later on abandoned when Angat Dam was constructed on 1967. Nowadays, it serves as a popular tourist spot.

The welcome arch at the entrance. Stores surround the entrance which means easy access to supplies. Once you enter the arch, the road becomes a narrow dirt and cement trail. You need to hike or bike the path to reach the dam.

Cool and placid looking river on the other side. Tourists can go down there and have a picnic. You can rent the huts and rafts and go swimming.

A relaxing sight
If you're looking for a little nature adventure, I'd recommend this place. It's a simple but relaxing getaway without having to go far. You can commute here by PUJ which passes by Sta. Lucia Mall. Or you can bring your car instead and park it around the entrance. Or do it like we did - by bike! Everybody will enjoy the change of scenery here.
