Corregidor Photosafari

Last Nov. 19-20, 2011, Red Dot Philippines sponsored a Photo Safari in Corregidor and invited selected photographers from Pipho, Olyclub Phils and from the media. They let the photographers use the latest Olympus PEN cameras - the EP3, EPL-1 and the EPM-1. Everybody was using a PEN camera.

The PEN is such a easy camera to use as we soon discovered. It is light and portable, just slightly bigger than a point and shoot. But the similarity ends there as the PEN rivals the DSLRs in function and features. It has the fastest AF in all the interchangeable lens-type cameras. It has good image quality and resolution and a host of features only found in more expensive DSLRs. In the course of the shoot, I also brought my trusty E-30 DSLR as a companion to the PEN but right after lunch, I shoved my DSLR back in my bag and proceeded to shoot with just the PEN camera. Was it refreshing to be traveling light!

One of the feature which was widely explored by the photographers was the use of the built-in art filters. These filters enabled us to experiment with different effects on our images. No need for post processing! Art filters are addicting!

At the end of the event, many photographers were smitten with the mighty PEN including me. I felt sad when it was time to return the cameras back after 2 days of shooting. Looks like I have to ask Santa if I could have this new toy! hohoho!

One word to describe the PEN -- FUN!

Thanks to Red Dot Philippines and Olympus Japan for inviting us to this event. Hoping you have more photo safaris in the future.
