Black Island
Approaching the island, you will immediately notice the dark color of the limestone.
After a side trip to Coron, we proceeded to Barangay Salvacion in the northern part of Busuanga Island. It's on the way to the Calauit wildlife game preserve.

One of the tourist sites that Salvacion is promoting is the Black Island. So called for its mysterious black limestone cliffs that comprise most of the island, it is also known to be one of the best shipwreck diving sites in Palawan.

During World War II, a number of Japanese vessels had sunk along with their cargo in the waters of Busuanga Island. These shipwrecks have now become a home for a variety of diverse marine life.

Black island has a white sand beach where there are some makeshift huts available for rent to tourists. The shipwreck is just near the beach so the boats approaching this island has to carefully maneuver to avoid hitting it.
Other features of the island are caves reportedly used by the Japanese during the war. Together with a guide, we entered the bigger cave where this huge cavern greeted us.
There is a pool inside the cave (where the people are above). Whether the pool is clean enough to take a dip remains to be seen.
May poses by the exit of another cave where we traverse the inside thru another opening.
