Anawangin Cove

Our family decided to spend one summer vacation at Anawangin Cove in Zambales. The cove has a white sand beach strip covered beautifully by pine trees and surrounded by a mountain range. It's accessible by a 40-minute boat ride from barangay Pundaquit or by trekking over the surrounding mountains. There's no electricity, no cell signals, no structures except for some bathrooms and huts.  It's a perfect place to get away from it all if you fancy solace.  Just don't go here during Holy Week (like we did) as the place was crammed with vacationers.

There were hardly any people around when we arrived early morning on Maundy Thursday .

One cool feature of the beach is that there is a river behind which exits into the sea at one end of the strip. Across the river are more camping sites.

My daughter took to the water immediately as we prepared our tents and other camping gear.

As the day progressed, more people began arriving. They quickly set-up their tents underneath the pine trees.

Spent the rest of the day relaxing, exploring or just enjoying the scenes around us.

The following day, more people arrived and some started to ply their trade.

Having so many people wasn't that all bad as I got to have interesting subjects.

The only problem that we encountered were the long queues at the bathroom and shower area.

Later that afternoon,  we explored the areas near the river and the camping site across

We soon emerged at the river's mouth where I made this panorama image of the sea, the beach and the river

That night, we were entertained by an impromptu Poi dance.

Woke up early the following morning and took some photos of the rockscape at the other end of the beach

It was time to go home on the 3rd day but not before visiting Capones island to get a look at the old lighthouse there.

This has been one relaxing and adventuresome weekend for my family and I. The uniqueness of the place has very much made a impression on all of us...

...well maybe except my nephew who sorely missed being wired to the virtual world.
